We’ve all had it. That particular moment back in time where a door or window opened for us with a welcoming invitation. We either took front and center with courage and owned it or closed the curtains, locked the door and tossed the key. On another note, we may have just walked on by that open window and said, “Hmmm…sure is nice outside.” And then moved on past our day without any further thought. Now, of course, the even bigger question is, do we still think about it either way? And was it so far in the past that we don’t know how to find our way back there. Let’s start at a foundational place.
HIS PURPOSE VS ANY
For starters, the true nature of our purpose is connected to the one who created us and calls us back to a known intimate connection with Him as our place of origin. With this foundation, God can breathe his will through us in the unique areas we were designed and aligned for. It’s really beautiful to imagine that sometimes, even without having all the answers, we can trust that God has an ultimate plan, knows it best, and by way of trust, we can be apart of something meant for good.
Romans 8:28 NIV– And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
PURPOSE- IT CALLS
Purpose has a way of hanging on and reminding you that it’s ready when you are, having chosen you all along. Even when you think you’ve moved on, it has a way of showing up in unexpected places, conversations, and even in what we feel it is the least likely timing. That’s because it doesn’t wait on comfort, convenience, or capability. It just calls……Come on somebody! And who’s doing the calling? It’s God. With these set of circumstances, we’d be sure to want to lean into Him. We are now left understanding there’s a sure need to have to operate in faith, which pleases Him anyway.
John 15:16 NIV– You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.
THAT MEMORABLE MOMENT
Most of us have had that drop the mic moment. Even when there may not have even been any audience at all. We just stood in amazement at what we had seen was possible from within and wondered how it all ever even worked out. It became a little nugget of self-worth just for us. For some of us maybe we prepared and worked hard for that moment and had for years. Whatever the case, what was it for? I mean what was it really all about?
HOW HE MOVES THROUGH OUR ABILITIES
Maybe there was an audience that saw what you had to share and it made them happy, inspired, or fulfilled. They were impressed and wanted to see or hear more of the likes of this. It’s like drinking a glass of crisp, cold water and then asking, “Well, what natural spring did this come from? Because I’m now thirsty to know and thirsty for more.” The idea to have them see that God is tied to your purpose so that they will want to be a light that shines for Him also and find that missing link in their lives. This fulfills everyone. If you’ve gotten away from this type of fulfillment in the work you do or in your everyday life, this may be understood as your “once upon a purpose”.
THAT SAME STORY!
Yup! Then there was that same story we keep telling people because it reminded ourselves and people of who we once were. Also it reminded us of how we once felt when we were that person walking in step with a purpose at what we felt was our shot in life. And for some reason, that’s where it ended. For others, that’s what they’re still dreaming about years and years later. What’s your story? And did your story testify how God exists and how He very much can be apart of our walk of life.
WHAT WAS IT ALL FOR?
But again, what was it for? I mean what was it really all about?
Sometimes, we see purpose standing out because there was something about it that impacted people. How?
It gave people answers
It solved a problem they didn’t know how to solve
It saved them valuable time
It made them feel great about themselves
It inspired and gave them hope again
It drew them to the possibility they may have forgotten………
GOD WORKS IN US, THROUGH US AND GIVES US REASON
Our given purpose by design can make one see God in a complicated world.
ALL TO KNOW HIM BETTER
When we really look at our accomplishments, was it really just for us?
The answer is NO….
YES, It was meant for us to see its value. And it was meant to see that we can do all things through Christ and build our confidence and faith a bit more. But more so it was meant that we could see, feel, find, experience, and discover God. Which means we have to share the good news of His son Jesus so others can discover Him also.
Mark 16:15 NIV– He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Now that you know your part and your value, why did IT end? If it ended because you no longer felt passionate about it, well, that’s a common reason. The question you have to ask then is WHY? There’s a lot of self-digging here but it is often good to uncover this because the reason you quit might not have been for the right reasons. And if it wasn’t, that may be the reason you still feel unfulfilled with your purpose. When you have to wonder, “How much more of a difference could I have made?” It’s an ever-resounding, un-ending, and unknown thought.
WHAT ONCE WAS – CAN NOW BECOME!
I encourage you today to not say once upon a purpose but to prayerfully revisit that purpose if not immediately, in due time. Decide for it to be sooner rather than later, being that we don’t know how much time we have. If it failed, and God is still waiting on you, then try again. What did He wish to reveal to you behind all of it? If you labeled it a pass time, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with dusting off and resurrecting a lost talent and making it blossom rather than burying it when it can make a difference. We were meant to do, share, express, create, and build for His kingdom and it was meant to be multiplied.
Matthew 25:21 NIV– “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
WHEN PEOPLE SAY “LET IT GO”
People may say, “Oh that was in the past.” “Let it go.” Or, maybe this is you telling someone else that. However, there may be a reason someone every now and then asks you, “Hey, do you still…… It may be that it was just for that season but now there’s a new evolution of that purpose with a twist.
Whatever the case may be, I’d like to end with this; You never know what something could have been if you’d never carried it out. That’s what I was told. So what was once upon a purpose, can now become the new story that lights up your path. So may it be for you. It’ll be worth it to see…
