How Fast Are You Moving?

SLOW DOWN
I find that as the days go by, something is causing me to stay busy on purpose it seems. It is almost like the more I feel God calling and the more I yearn for his presence, the more there will be going on and that I have to get done. When I finally feel like there is a moment to breathe, it is magnificent! It’s like everything falls into place. What falls away, wasn’t necessary and what now presents itself, does so more naturally, in a presentable and accessible way. Certainly, healthy stress is good, but I don’t believe we were designed to function chaotically. Instead, the breathing room is necessary to go in deeper and find rest in regular intimacy with Christ.

TOO MUCH TOO FAST
When we’re overwhelmed with what seemingly isn’t enough time to dismantle, analyze and reconstruct the pile of tasks in our lives, we should probably see that this is because we need to make more room for God. Let me put it this way- We were meant to create room for him because of his worth and to create the breaks that can guide and balance us out of the mess. He possibly may be wanting us to lean on him to-

1- Pray for his strength to push us through what we thought we could not accomplish, and see that he could show us a better path or way to get to where we’re trying to go.

2- Have faith that he will work a miracle or breakthrough that’s desperately needed to make up for what we could not handle alone.

3- Realize to rely on the body of Christ, the community, family, a friend, or even a stranger to assist us, as he may be doing a work in them as well as us at the same time.

4- Slow down before it’s too late and see that too much too fast can lead to anger, depression, sickness, health problems, or a nervous breakdown.

5- Rethink our path when we’re losing track of responsibilities, consistently running late, often becoming forgetful, or heavily distracted away from what matters. Some of us have experienced our rushed lives moving so quickly that it takes a fractured or broken limb, a job loss, a diagnosis, or a fender bender before we realize the necessity of slowing down. Hopefully, these will be the signs we pay attention to so that we get our lives back in balance.

1 Corinthians 14:40 NIV– But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way.

6- Don’t over-hustle your way to a halt. You can only focus yourself in so many directions where, if there are too many projects, gigs, businesses, or a thing over here-thing over there, something is bound to become left and neglected.

FUSE GOD INTO YOUR DAILY DUTIES FOR BALANCE
1 Corinthians 10:31 NIV- So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
How bout it? It’s much easier to fuse God into the things that you do when you walk in his ways with the things you do daily in order to glorify his name. You’re really making time for him inside of the actions you choose to make for him, inside of the conversations you speak for him, and within the conscious state of mind you stay in that leans into consistent reliability in Him. At the end of the day, the most important actions, conversations, and spiritual connections will have taken place. Maybe you won’t have everything done, but I bet you’ll feel more whole. And feeling whole will position you to better understand in a busy world what more so matters.

SLOW DOWN, BE STILL, and LISTEN…
John 10:27 NIV- My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
How do we listen? Ever tried half paying attention to someone due to steadily working out your own thoughts or frantically moving around working away? As a result, you respond, “Ah-huh”. Well, the Ah huh, really meant, “I hear you speaking, but I don’t know what you said”. It doesn’t work effectively.

Psalm 46:10 NIV- He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

In order to listen well, we need to stop what we’re doing and be still long enough to listen and wait for all to be revealed and spoken. Then we need to give ourselves time to digest what was said in order to comprehend. It’s difficult to do if you’re like me whose mind races a mile a minute. So in order for it to work, it takes discipline. If we stop to listen for God’s voice, it may at first feel like it’s restricting us from racing ahead and forward into our busy day. Instead, it actually calms us down to God’s pace, not ours. In his pace, there has always been more reassurance, peace, and freedom any day. So how fast are you moving? Are you moving so quickly that you miss God’s sovereign voice that helps in recognizing he’s the source of a balanced pace in life? If so, incorporate moments in your day with him, and let the chips fall where they may by the guidance of his pace. Then we won’t be moving too fast or too slow, but moving in tune.
