2 Corinthians 1:3-5 NIV- Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
If you’ve ever gone through anything in your life, you know that to be outside of comfort’s boundaries is unsettling. It’s a detached feeling where you’re left in a continuously magnified and sometimes horrid state of loss, confusion or dilemma.
The damage is done and it hurts….. says our mind…..
As people, our flesh is anxious when we want to position ourselves for the right opportunity, a foot in the door or receive the hookup, they say it’s “who you know”. Then there’s in the spirit. It’s still who you know. This is where in Christ Jesus, He has authorized us to have the opportunity to come up under the covering of His indefinable comfort. There’s our “go-to”. A huge part of what lightens our load is simply admitting it’s waaaaaaaaay too much for us to bear and therefore give it away for Him to handle. You’ve got to! Who told you, you had to do it all alone? YOU DON’T.
Now breathe……..Here’s a simple prayer we can pray to give it away-
God, I am at a loss for words, strength, and hope.
All that I know and understand is in mass confusion.
I need your presence now…..And Your Son Jesus… is my way, truth and life. Thank you God for reminding me that you’ve been here the whole time and as I call You.
You are always near. Stay near…
Please share with me this weight of pain and discomfort and take it from me.
As I lean on you, give me Your peace, Your love and Your comfort…..
In Jesus name…. Amen.
THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT, COMFORTS US TO COMFORT OTHERS
None of us are exempt from distress. Not even Jesus was, because He was tempted by Satan, bullied by Roman soldiers and suffered death on a cross for our sins. Once we identify with and overcome discomfort back to comfort and ease, we have a reason to explain to someone else that they can overcome discomfort as well.
Somedays we will be too weak to do anything to get out of the situation. We’ll feel overtaken, but no situation is too deep to begin to turn around from, be it you surrender your brokenness.
GOD COMFORTS US
Matthew 11:28 NIV- Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Matthew 5:4- NIV-Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
WE DECLARE GOD’S COMFORT Psalm 119:50 NIV- My comfort in my suffering is this: Your promise preserves my life.
Psalm 119:76- May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant.
Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV- The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
WE NOW CAN COMFORT OTHERS
1 Thessalonians 5:11 NKJV- Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
Use your identity with Christ to testify of the emotional anguish he’s sat with you through and walked you out of while healing you over time. Your returning to comfort can be an encouragement to what others would disagree with and loose hope over. It will display the confidence that His comfort does strengthen, if you allow it to.
DISCOMFORT IS A PART OF LIFE…Temporarily
Can you imagine if we remained comfortable always? We wouldn’t be living because in order to grow, change, sacrifice, understand, love, trust, gain, loose, be faithful, disciplined, change seasons and develop, we have to be uncomfortable.
What we learn from this we can pass on to those who struggle in every one of these areas. Whether long term or short lived, decide that brokenness cannot stay and bind you to pain forever because this isn’t God’s will for your life. But like the many stages to any broken experience… this too shall pass. And as for comfort…Pass it on.
